In this first episode we are going to be talking about

Why Start a podcast!

Why indeed, to be honest the idea of starting this podcast frightens me to death but it has been at the back of my mind for a while, but like most things in life we keep putting them off. 

So, now feels the right time to start this podcast, partly because our other social media platforms YouTube, TikTok and Instagram are all doing a great job helping to highlight the poor quality of newly built homes throughout the UK and are helping to educate new build house buyers what snags are and what to look for in their new home.

I hope podcast will fill a gap where I can interact with new build home buyers and offer help and advice, hopefully this will grow into a great place where we can answer any of your snagging questions. 

Who knows as the podcast grows, we can invite guests from different snagging companies to discuss what they do and tells us how they find new build homes and their experiences of the housing industry. 

We all do the same job for our customers, but I bet in a different way which should be interesting to discuss.

 Anyhow for me starting a podcast at 63 is a whole new world and one which I am going to have to learn, and let’s be honest I know I am going to make a few mistakes along the way. So, I will apologise for them in advance. 

More importantly though this podcast is all about offering help and advice to people who are in the process or have already bought a New Build property, helping them to understand what snags are and how the snagging process works. 

I appreciate not everyone will need this advice but the feedback I get from our customers is there are large number of people out there who don’t know what snags to look for or fully understand what the snagging process is or what snags their builder will or won’t rectify.

Sharing my knowledge and experience with you will hopefully help to educate those who are going through this process and help them to identify snags in their new home, in some of the episodes we will also talk about some of the pitfalls buying a newly built property can have from signing the contract to legal completion and beyond. 

You might be asking who I am to give advice, so here we go.

My journey started for me way back in 1975 when I left school and started work as an apprentice carpenter. 

After I had finished my apprenticeship, I worked on several sites for a number of large house builders as a carpenter. 

Working on site and seeing what the site managers did fascinated me and gave me an insight into site management and I suppose sowed the seed for me to change my career path.

So, In 1986 I started my new career in site management  with a company called Mclean Homes Northwest and Cheshire starting as an assistant site manager. 

I have now been working in the house building industry now for over 47 years and I can honestly say I have had a great time and a very successful career in both site management and contracts management, I have also built hundreds of houses and won numerous industry awards.

But in 2018 I had had enough of the demands of house building and changes within the industry. The constant pressures of having to build large numbers of houses with poor trades and inexperienced managers had become too much, and it was not a nice environment to be working in.  

Having experienced how house builders treat their customers, is to be perfectly honest disgraceful, newly built house buyers should not be treated the way they are and be expected to take handover of poor-quality houses, some of which should never have been signed off by the builder or warranty provider.

 Along with the ongoing demands for more and more houses to be built this is only increasing the number of poorly built houses which are being sold to new build property buyers, this is wrong, and something needs to be done.

This rise in demand, and the number of trades people who have no pride in their work or just don’t care, made me realise it was time for me to do something about it.

But what could I do to change it, well, the one thing I have done is to start  Lively Professional Services Ltd a new build snagging company based here in the Northwest, the purpose of the business is to help newly built house buyers get the quality of house they should be getting from their builder and to give them peace of mind that their new home has been built to the current building regulations and Standards.

The rise in the success of the business has been exceptional, I can only thank my customers for this because without their support we would not be where we are today with offices in the Northwest and a new office which we opened a few weeks ago to cover the Southwest, and there is more expansion to come later this year.

So that has been a quick look at my journey up to this point, and an insight into what this podcast is all about, with your help and support we can make this podcast a great success and a platform for new build house buyers to ask any of their snagging questions which I can answer, and discuss them in future episodes.
